GREAT NEWS! We have rescheduled Men Who Cook 2011 for some much needed fun and community support!

WHY SUPPORT THE MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF THE SOUTHERN TIER OF NEW YORK?

~We are proud of our heritage…MHAST will be celebrating its 84th birthday as the oldest continuously operated Mental Health Association in New York State. Our role of advocacy started in 1927 to address inhumane treatment of individuals with mental illness.
~The Federal government declared the ‘Floods of 2006’ a national disaster.  The Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier received federal funding to provide crisis counseling intervention to mitigate psychological trauma for the affected population.  Over 15,000 individuals in Broome, Tioga and Delaware counties of New York were helped by our organization.
~The MHAST organized one of the first rallies in New York State for Mental Health Parity and actively worked with the movement which resulted in the passage of Timothy’s Law, a statute that took effect on January 1, 2007 declaring mental health parity in New York State.
~The professional management, staff and Board of Directors of MHAST are at the forefront of working with other mental health programs and associations to plan and implement the most effective programs to meet the needs of our consumers.  Current projects in the planning stage are Mental Health First Aid and a Peer-Run Recovery Center.  For these and other vital programs, MHAST is always researching a variety of new funding sources including a fee-for-service formula for some of our programs; local, state and national grants; and additional fundraising events to complement our most successful Hanohano Golf Tournament and Men Who Cook events, etc.
